It's your turn now
Now that you have a webhost and know some HTML, it is time for you to create a layout. However, because good layouts require a vast knowledge of HTML, I would suggest reading a book on HTML first before creating your own layout. Most beginners would create a layout using frames because it seems pretty simple. Links on the left, sections on the right. Yes, it IS simple. So I would suggest frames pages for HTML beginners. However, many browsers cannot support frames, therefore I would suggest no frames pages for experienced users. Because creating frames pages is pretty simple, this section will cover creating layouts for no frames pages.
Now, the simplest no frames layout has a banner on top, links on left or right, and content in the middle. However, it is not so simple to create. I myself first started off with links on both sides and the content in the middle. Then I discovered that having links only on one side made it easier for the audience and for me to edit. First of all, you need a banner. Second of all, you need a table of contents. Third of all, you need a way to display the content of each page. Making banners is easy enough. You just need to be good with graphics to make a good looking one. Now, creating the table of contents for the links is hardest for beginners.
What you should basically do is create the entire layout out of tables. Create one table. In the first table row, create one table cell for the banner. In the next row, create two table cells. One for the table of contents, and one for the content. It is best to stay organized by nesting tables for your links and content in those two table cells. It is also good to make sure that you valign (vertical align) the content in the tables so that they won't be all over the place. This is simply what I did for my layout. One row for the banner. One row for the table of contents and content. You may also view the source of one of my pages to see how I created it. You may NOT copy my layout.
However, I provide free layouts if you don't know how to make one. Go to my Free Layouts section or click here. Preview some or all of the layouts and download the one you like.
