Saiyan Origin: The Saiyans are a race of warriors that were born to fight. Long ago, a ship containing prehistoric homo sapiens with furry tails flew to a planet called "Plant". They landed and soon colonized a part of the planet. The thing is, the saiyans weren't there first; the Tsufuru were. The Tsufuru were the peaceful original inhabitants of Plant. Although they were small and weak, they had weapons and technology. The saiyans were very barbaric, so it wasn't long before they were enemies of the Tsufuru. Because of their weapons, the Tsufuru were able to hold off the attacks of the much larger and stronger saiyans. A full moon came once every 8 years to Plant, and on one of this nights, the saiyans finally took over. With the moon emitting moonlight all over the planet, it was not long before the saiyans transformed into the powerful Oozarus. The saiyans destroyed the Tsufuru and took over their technology and the planet. After all this took place, the planet was soon named Planet Vegeta. In time, the saiyans met Frieza and formed an alliance with him. The saiyans worked for Frieza by destroying the life on planets and then selling them to Frieza. But one day, Frieza felt that the saiyans were getting too strong and killed as many as he could in one strong blast. The blast also wiped Planet Vegeta out. After all the destruction, only 4 saiyans remained: 
Kakarotto (Goku): a third blood and weak saiyan who was sent to earth as an infant to wipe it clean of life for the saiyan race to sell it to Frieza. Fortunately, he hit is head and forgot about his mission.
Radditz: Kakarotto's older brother was also weak for a saiyan, but was thought to be stronger than Kakarott.
Nappa: Kind of like vegeta's body guard and friend. For a saiyan, he had decent strength. Planet Vegeta was destroyed while he and Vegeta were away.
Vegeta: Was called the "Prince of Saiyans" because his father, King Vegeta, was the "King of Saiyans". Vegeta later worked for Frieza and then went to earth in search of Kakarotto, the only saiyan left besides him, Nappa and Radditz.
Normal Saiyan: 
A normal saiyan is the weakest saiyan stage. However, this is the only saiyan stage besides SSJ4 where a saiyan has a tail. All saiyans are born with tails and transform into an Oozaru at the sight of a full moon. An average adult saiyan's power level is10 000. Physical description: large muscle mass, black hair that sticks up (a saiyan's hair never grows, so there is no need to ever cut it), and a tail. Oozaru Requirements: In order to transform into an Oozaru when seeing a full moon, one must have the following qualities: • have at least partial saiyan blood and DNA: • have his/her tail: By the way, Vegeta's Power Ball technique let's him transform into the Oozaru state at anytime without the sight of a full moon. This glowing ball which he creates is hurled into the atmosphere and emits the same light as a full moon, which is why he can transform. Although the English episodes of DragonballZ gives credit of this technique conception to Bardock, that information was made up by FUNimation. Oozaru: 
This stage was first achieved by Goku when he was just a boy. During his first transformation, he couldn't control the power, and unknowingly stepped on his earth father, Gohan. Whenever a saiyan still has his/her tail and stares at a full moon, he/she will transform into the 45 foot tall, menacing giant monkey or gorilla (In Japanese, Oozaru translates into "Big Monkey"). During this stage, the saiyan's power level will be up to 10 times as large. Most saiyans with enough experience, are able to control themselves in the Oozaru state. Anything that emits the light from a full moon can cause the transformation. Even Vegeta's Power Ball can cause the Oozaru transformation because it emits the same moonlight. However, if a saiyan's tail is cut off while in the Oozaru state, they transform back into the normal saiyan state (the tail will eventually grow back). But, if the tail is pulled out by the roots, it is impossible for the saiyan to transform into an Oozaru ever again.
Physical description: Three words. A giant monkey. Super Saiyan Requirements: In order to transform into a Super Saiya, one must have the following qualities: • have at least partial saiyan blood and DNA: Even though the Dragonball manga only showed super saiyans who had 1/2 saiyan blood, if you watch the anime, you will have noticed that Goku Jr. in Dragonball GT only had 1/16 saiyan blood yet he still turned SSJ at a young age. • have a pure heart: This does not mean that the saiyan needs a heart of good. If you can remember, Vegeta pointed out that to turn SSJ a saiyan's heart can be pure good as well as pure evil. It just has to be pure. • have an extremely high power level: Even though Goku's power level was only about 300 000 before he turned SSJ, his body had been damaged becayse he had continuously used the kaioken technique. And as most of us know, saiyans gain strength after much physical suffering. This, along with Krillin's demise was enough to push Goku over the edge. • have a state of extreme rage: A saiyan must also have extreme rage before transforming into a super saiyan. For example, Goku turned super saiyan because of the death of his friend, Krillin. Vegeta goes SSJ because both Trunks and Goku could go SSJ but he couldn't. He was so enraged by not going SSJ after so much training that he didn't care anymore and amazingly went SSJ. Gohan reaches this stage when thinking of all the times he could have saved his friends, but ended up getting scared and causing them to die instead. However, this does not apply to all saiyans. Gohan, Goten, and Chibi Trunks go SSJ at quite a young age and Chibi Trunks and Goten transform without the need of extreme rage. This appears to suggest that saiyans with only partial saiyan blood have a higher chance of going SSJ. Also, Goten and Trunks were both conceived after Goku and Vegeta transformed into super saiyans for their first time. Because Trunk's and Goten's transformations were reaches much faster and easily than Gohan's, it is safe to assume that going super saiyan before having children alters the DNA being passed along to make saiyan transformations easier to reach for the descendants. Super Saiyan Level 1 (SSJ): 
Goku first reached this stage in movie #6 when he battled with Lord Slug. Goku didn't seem to be a super saiyan at the time because his hair was slightly black. However, Goku still officially remained the first to turn into a super saiyan in the Frieza saga. After the Z fighters learned that Frieza survived Goku's Genkidama (Spirit Bomb), Frieza quickly took Krillin out with a bang. Overcome by rage and anger Goku went SSJ for the first time.
Physical description: increased muscle mass, hair will change in colour to bright blonde in color and stand up, and the eyes will change to a greenish-blue tone in colour. Ultra Super Saiyan (USSJ): 
Vegeta first achieved this stage while training in the Room of Time with Trunks for the Cell Games. Trunks also reached this level during the training. This is generally seen as the stage between SSJ and SSJ2. During this stage, the saiyan's muscles greatly increases in strength and size, but his/her speed greatly decreases as well. Any attack would do a lot of damage, but if one is not fast enough, the attack won't even touch the target. When Goku and Gohan were training in the Room of Time for the Cell Games, Goku discovered the USSJ level. He demonstrated it to Gohan and explained how it was inefficient level because of the clear disadvantage of making the saiyan very slow. This drawback was made clear when Trunks went USSJ to fight Cell, and is easily beaten.
Physical description: muscles are greatly increased in size. Super Saiyan Level 2 (SSJ2): 
Gohan first reached this stage during the Cell saga. Cell had created the Cell Jr.s which were outfighting the Z fighters. Gohan just knelt there but could do nothing. In the mean time, Android 16 still had his head left, and told Mr. Satan to throw him to Gohan. Mr. Satan completed his job, and Android 16's head was now between Gohan and Cell. Android 16 told Gohan that it was okay to unleash his rage and save his friends. Cell then stepped on Android 16's head. This started to enrage Gohan as he was angered by the suffering of all his friends and the death of Android 16. This caused Gohan to unleash his amazing power and go SSJ2.
Physical description: a greater deal of muscle mass than SSJ1, and the saiyan will have longer blonde hair pointing up. Occasionally, a saiyan in the SSJ2 state will have white lightning zapping all around him. Super Saiyan Level 3 (SSJ3): 
Goku first reached this state during a fight with Majin Buu. This is one of the more powerful saiyan forms. Although SSJ3 Goku could have been overpowered by Majin Buu, Goku did kill Fat Janenba in movie #12 when he went SSJ3. Goku also went SSJ3 in Dragonball GT, but because he was wished to be a kick again by Pilaf, his little body couldn't hold the SSJ3 form due to it's lack of strength. However, he does achieve the SSJ4 form.
Physical description: increased muscle mass, about 4 feet of flowing blonde hair, eyebrows disappear, and greatly increased speed. NOTE from Legendary Brolly: In your Saiyan Geneology page you say that only SSJ4 and normal Saiyan stages have tails. And i was like whoa....he is right...But now that i think about it at one point in time Goku is SSJ3 and has a tail. If i recall in GT Goku gets raped by Bebi Vegeta and was saved by the Fused Kaio-shin. Then that old Kaio-shin tries to bring out Goku's "Inner Strength" (or some such) by ripping Goku's tail out of his ass. Then Goku goes back and fights Bebi Vegeta...in the strongest from he knows...SSJ3...and now he has a tail. Of course he gets rapped again and goes Golden Oozaru...etc etc. So SSJ forms can have a tail it seems (at leased in GT). Golden Oozaru: 
This stage was only achieved by Goku and Bebi-Vegeta in Dragonball GT. This is the most powerful oozaru stage and some also say that it is the strongest saiyan state, proven during Dragonball GT episodes 38-40 on Bebi's recreation of Planet Plant when Goku swatted Bebi-Vegeta all over the planet. To transform into this saiyan state, a saiyan must have a tail and must receive ample amounts of moonlight. The only obvious difference from the Oozaru stage is that the fur is golden yellow instead of brown and the Golden Oozaru is much stronger.
Physical description: Four words. A giant golden monkey. Super Saiyan Level 4 (SSJ4): 
Goku first achieved this level in the Bebi Saga. With no hope left at stopping Bebi-Vegeta and Pan crying, Goku went SSJ4 for the first time. In this form, Goku was able to use "Times 10 Kamehameha" and "Ultimate Kamehameha". This is the only super saiyan level with a tale (saiyans already have tails, but not in the other three super saiyan forms). However, unlike the other super saiyan forms, a saiyan must first be in the Golden Oozaru stage to achieve this level.
Physical description: increased muscle mass, black hair, red rimmed eyes, a tail, and upper torso is covered in reddish-brown fur. Legendary Super Saiyan: 
The Legendary Super Saiyan is Brolly. In Dragonball Z movie 8, Brolly was shown to be exiled from Planet Vegeta. When Brolly was young, Goku traumatized him by crying non stop for 24 hours. Most adult saiyans had an average power level of 10 000. So when Brolly was found to have a power level of 10 000 when he was born, there was no doubt who the legendary super saiyan was (Goku's power level was 10 when he was born). Twice in Dragonball Z movies 10 and 11, Brolly came back to get revenge and kill Goku. Fortunately, Brolly could not defeat him. Brolly was the first saiyan to go SSJ during Goku's 24 hours of crying.
