Hits and Affiliation Revisited.

I know I've already talked about hits in my other editorial, but it seems that many of my fans still aren't getting the message. Today I received an email from a fan begging to be my ally or put some sort of link to his site on mine. The webmaster of this site said that his site was really good and didn’t get enough hits. After talking to Morrik and reading his editorials and stuff, I started to believe like him that hits don’t matter. It’s the content. I know many sites that say the same thing, but I can tell they don’t. They say hits don’t matter, but have those “hit requirements” in their affiliation. Yeah, that’s me too. I know I’m pathetic for that. Morrik is the only webmaster that I know for sure values content and originality over hits. Some of his affiliates make only a quarter of the hits that I do, but he has proven he understands the meaning of affiliation. Affiliation does not mean trying to get more hits, it’s a friendship between two webmasters who go to each other’s sites often and help each other. To this day, the only real affiliate I have is DBZOnline with Shahab.

Anyways, getting back to the email I got, I checked this guy’s site out. His layout was okay, so I checked out his content. All of it was copied from a number of sites from the Dragonball community. This webmaster was telling me that he worked hard and wasn’t getting hits. I don’t consider copying and pasting hard work. I wrote 99% of my content. That’s real work. Also, in this guy’s affiliation requirements on his site, he asks for a certain amount of hits a day, but then says hits don’t matter. This webmaster was contradicting himself! He really ticked me off for two reasons. First of all, he applied for being an ally without meeting the requirements, when I clearly stated on my site to NOT apply for affiliation without meeting the requirements. The second reason he ticked me off was the hits comment.

He asked for me to put a link to his site on mine. Because he wanted more hits. I remember when I first started DaDarkVegeta and it was hard just getting 100 hits a day. But did I ask a big site like King Nothing or Planet Namek to put a link to my site on theirs? No. I joined top site lists and the hits started to grow as I put up more content and got some affiliates. King Nothing started out as a site that made barely 100 hits a day with out even caring about hits. Because of Morrik’s originality and care about Dragonball over hits, he is now in my opinion, the best webmaster with the best site on the net. I get so many emails all the time asking me to link to their site. I can’t put links to hundreds of sites everyday. If I did that for one site, I’d have to be fair and do that for every other site that asks. I also stated in my FAQ that I will mainly link to sites if they are my affiliates or the SOTM. So, please, don’t think that hits are everything. Hits, as Morrik said, corrupt you. They take over you. Hits don’t mean that your site is the best. I know plenty of sites who make less hits than I do that are WAY better than mine. These are the sites that I look up to and the sites you should look up to too.

Now on to affiliation requirements. I’ve seen many sites that have bogus affiliation requirements. These sites require you to have like 1000 unique hits a day when they themselves barely make 400-600 unique hits a day. These sites have misused the meaning of affiliation and value hits over content. Let’s say there are two sites. One site has a crappy layout but amazing content written all by him/herself and makes only 100 hits a day. The other site has a great layout, makes 5000 hits a day but has all of his content stolen. I’m sure most of you would say “easy choice. Affiliate with the site with 5k hits a day”. But that’s not me. I’d go with the site with the amazing original content. This is because I know that this site has the potential and eventually would become the best site on the net. I know this editorial is long, but I just wanted you all to know my opinion. Thanks for listening. Later.
